Introduction
Manino ("we", "our", or "the app") is a personal finance app published by Fynlo Labs, covering expense tracking, budgets, goals, loans, and net worth. This Privacy Policy explains what information we access, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
By using Manino, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Information we access
Manino accesses the following categories of information:
- Account information — your email address, name, and settings such as income and salary-cycle, used if you create an account for cloud sync.
- Financial data you enter or import — transactions, categories, tags, budgets, goals, recurring transactions, loans, and net-worth entries you add manually.
- Bank statement files (optional) — if you use statement import, the CSV, PDF, or XLSX file you choose is uploaded to our servers to extract transactions into your account. Files are processed and then discarded; they are not shared further.
- SMS messages (with your permission) — to auto-detect transactions, Manino can read transactional SMS on your device. This parsing happens entirely on-device — see "How we use SMS" below.
- Contacts (with your permission) — when you use the Lend/Borrow feature, Manino requests access to your device contacts so you can associate a transaction with a person. Only the contact's name and phone number are read for this purpose.
- Currency preference — your selected display currency, stored against your account.
- Subscription and purchase records — if you subscribe to Manino Pro/Ultimate, Google Play Billing provides us a purchase token we use to verify and manage your subscription. We do not receive or store your payment card details; Google handles payment directly.
- Diagnostic data — crash reports, performance traces, and a push-notification token, collected via Firebase (see "Third-party service providers" below).
How we use SMS
SMS parsing runs entirely on your device. Raw SMS content is never uploaded to our servers and is never sent to any AI model or third party. Only the transaction details you confirm (amount, merchant, category, date) are stored, and are synced to the cloud only if you enable cloud sync.
You can review, edit, or discard any auto-detected transaction before it's saved. Revoking SMS permission at any time stops this feature without affecting your existing data.
How we use your contacts
Contact access is used solely to let you tag a person in a lending or borrowing record. We do not share your contacts with third parties or use them for any purpose other than displaying them within the app for your selection.
Contact associations are stored locally on your device. If you enable optional cloud sync, any associated contact names are encrypted in transit and at rest — only names linked to your transactions are synced, never your full address book.
AI features (chat assistant & insights)
Manino offers an AI chat assistant and automated spending insights (recurring-bill reminders, weekly spend patterns). To generate these, a summary of your relevant transaction and spending data — not raw SMS content and not statement files — is sent to our AI provider, OpenAI, solely to produce the response or insight shown to you. This data is not used by OpenAI to train their models.
Data storage
All data entered in Manino — including transactions, budgets, goals, loans, net-worth entries, and any contact associations — is stored locally on your device by default.
Manino also offers optional cloud sync. When you enable this feature, your data is securely uploaded to our cloud service so you can access it across multiple devices. Cloud sync is entirely opt-in; you can use the app without enabling it. You may also delete your cloud data at any time from within the app settings, or by following our account deletion instructions.
Cloud sync
When cloud sync is enabled:
- Your transactions, categories, budgets, goals, loans, recurring transactions, and net-worth entries are synced to a secure cloud service across your devices.
- All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
- Your data is used solely to provide the sync, AI, and billing features described in this policy, and is never sold.
- You can disable cloud sync and request deletion of your cloud data at any time via app settings or by contacting us.
Third-party service providers
We do not sell or trade your data. We work with the following service providers, each acting under their own privacy and data-processing terms, to operate Manino:
- OpenAI — powers the AI chat assistant and spending insights, as described above.
- Google Play Billing — processes subscription payments and provides purchase verification tokens. We never see your card details.
- Firebase (Google) — Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring collect crash reports and performance diagnostics to help us fix bugs; Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers push notifications. This diagnostic data is not linked to your financial data.
We do not use advertising networks or analytics services that build advertising profiles from your data.
Data security
Local data is protected by your device's own security mechanisms (screen lock, encryption). We recommend keeping your device secured with a PIN, password, or biometric lock.
When cloud sync is enabled, all data transmission is encrypted in transit using TLS, and data at rest is encrypted on our servers. Access is protected by your account credentials.
Permissions requested
- READ_SMS — To automatically detect transactions from bank and card SMS. Optional; parsing happens on-device and you can use Manino without granting this permission.
- READ_CONTACTS — To allow you to select a contact from your address book when adding a lend/borrow transaction. Optional.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS — To show reminders, sync status, and insight alerts.
- com.android.vending.BILLING — Required to purchase and manage a Manino Pro/Ultimate subscription.
- INTERNET — Required for cloud sync, AI features, statement import, and billing. The app functions locally without it, aside from those features.
Data retention & deletion
You can delete individual records at any time from within the app, or delete your entire account and cloud data — see how to delete your account for the full breakdown of what's removed immediately and what (like subscription records, kept for tax purposes) is retained for a limited period.
Children's privacy
Manino is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
